Dr. Guillermo Salinas is a distinguished cardiologist with extensive expertise in cardiovascular sciences, interventional cardiology, and healthcare innovation.
Born in Mexico City, Mexico, Dr. Salinas has dedicated his career to advancing the field of cardiology through a blend of clinical practice, research, and technological innovation. After completing his medical education at the prestigious Escuela de Medicina Ignacio A. Santos at Instituto Tecnologico de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey (ITESM), where he received an Honorable Mention, Dr. Salinas pursued advanced training in internal medicine and cardiovascular sciences at the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) in Galveston. He further specialized by completing an interventional cardiology fellowship at the renowned DeBakey Heart and Vascular Center at Houston Methodist, where he honed his skills in complex coronary and peripheral interventions.
Dr. Salinas is board-certified in Internal Medicine, Cardiovascular Sciences, and Interventional Cardiology, and holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley. In June 2021, he successfully completed a Post Graduate Program in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning: Business Applications from the University of Texas at Austin, further solidifying his role as a leader in healthcare innovation.
During his residency at UTMB Galveston, Dr. Salinas was recognized for his exemplary performance, earning the Outstanding Resident of the Year award in both his second and third years. His professional journey, now focused on the pursuit of innovation, is marked by a relentless drive to transform healthcare delivery through the integration of AI and machine learning, particularly in the domains of population health management and cardiovascular risk prevention. His leadership extends beyond clinical practice to include significant contributions to community education, ensuring that the latest advancements in cardiovascular care are accessible to the broader public.
Currently, Dr. Salinas has joined South Texas Heart Clinic and THP, where he is spearheading the development and deployment of an AI innovation strategy aimed at improving the delivery of care to the community. Additionally, he participates with the UTRGV Internal Medicine Residency Program as a cardiovascular educator, helping to train future physicians to improve care in the Rio Grande Valley. In his role, he continues to leverage his expertise to ensure that cutting-edge technologies are integrated into clinical practice, thereby enhancing patient outcomes and operational efficiency.
Previously, Dr. Salinas served as the Director of Cardiology and the Cath Lab at Rio Grande Regional Hospital, overseeing quality programs and contributing to the HCA Healthcare Cardiac & Vascular Leadership Council. His leadership extends beyond the hospital setting as he contributes to the broader medical community through research, publications, and presentations at national conferences.
A Fellow of the American College of Cardiology and the Society for Cardiac Angiography and Interventions, Dr. Salinas has focused his research interests on the intersection of cardiovascular disease and innovative treatments, with several publications to his name in reputable medical journals.
In addition to his clinical and academic pursuits, Dr. Salinas is passionate about utilizing advanced algorithms, computer vision, and natural language processing (NLP) to disrupt traditional models of healthcare, particularly in value-based care and device development. Fluent in both Spanish and English, he continues to make significant contributions to cardiology while also nurturing his interests in soccer and tennis.
